Deloitte issued an assurance report confirming the integrity and consistency of Incogni's data removal practices as of July 18, 2025.
The audit, which is among the first in this field, affirms that Incogni meets critical operational promises, including recurring data deletion requests, verified removal confirmations, and a firm stance against data monetization, raising the bar for transparency in the personal data removal industry.
The independent assessment was conducted by Deloitte, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, known for its global expertise in auditing and compliance verification. The evaluation provided assurance that Incogni actively covers more than 420 data brokers and people search sites, both sending removal requests and receiving confirmations from them. Additionally, the report confirmed that the company processed over 245 million data removal requests as of the audit date.
Founded as a privacy-focused arm of cybersecurity company Surfshark, Incogni offers an automated service that helps individuals remove their personal information from public data brokers. These brokers often aggregate, buy, and sell consumer data, posing risks to personal privacy, security, and identity protection. Incogni's mission is to simplify the complex and opaque process of data removal, particularly in jurisdictions where data privacy regulations grant individuals the right to opt out.
According to the Deloitte report, Incogni's operations meet several important benchmarks:
- The firm sends recurring removal requests every 60 days for public brokers and every 90 days for private brokers, unless the user's data has been permanently suppressed.
- It actively verifies removal confirmations from the data brokers, ensuring follow-through rather than relying on unverified automation.
- Incogni does not sell or otherwise share its users' data, confirming adherence to its privacy-centric model.
Unlike some competitors that inflate their broker lists with one-time requests or loosely associated sites, Incogni maintains a clear distinction between claimed coverage and operational activity. Every broker listed is part of the company's active and ongoing removal rotation.
Darius Belejevas, Head of Incogni, emphasized that this assessment is more than just validation; it's a challenge to the wider industry. By inviting a third-party audit and publicly disclosing the results, Incogni is pushing for greater accountability and setting a precedent for independently verifiable data removal services.
For users, this development offers increased confidence in Incogni's ability to not only act as a privacy advocate but to do so with verifiable transparency and measurable outcomes. As the personal data removal market matures, we expect that third-party verifications will only increase in number and depth.
When selecting data removal services, we recommend that you use reputable data removal services that offer recurring request cycles and verification, and that you confirm the service receives deletion confirmations from brokers, not just that it sends requests.
