An expired Apple Developer certificate has rendered Logitech’s Logi Options+ and G HUB applications non-functional on macOS, leaving users unable to access critical features on high-end peripherals such as the MX Master series mice and MX Keys keyboards.
Logitech has acknowledged the issue in a support note, stating that it is working on a fix and expects a resolution “soon.”
Update – Logitech has published an update to its notice after the publication of this post. It now contains an official solution, which is to re-install the affected apps. The fix has been made available for the last four macOS versions, namely 13 “Ventura,” 14 “Sonoma,” 15 “Sequoia,” and 26 “Tahoe.” To restore functionality without disruptions, it is recommended not to uninstall the existing app, or delete the configuration files.
Logi Options+ is Logitech’s modern software platform for configuring advanced input devices, replacing the older Logi Options app. It allows users to remap buttons, adjust scroll behavior, and create per-application profiles. Logitech G HUB serves a similar purpose for the company’s gaming-oriented devices.
However, both applications rely on code signing certificates issued by Apple to validate authenticity and integrity. These certificates typically expire every five years. When they do, macOS blocks the app from launching, unless it is updated and re-signed.
The problem began surfacing on January 5, 2026, when macOS users returned to find the Options+ app stuck on an endless loading screen, with multiple system logs pointing to a Trust evaluate failure: [leaf TemporalValidity]. This error, which appears when macOS encounters an expired or invalid developer signature, prevents the app from launching or interacting with system services.
Logitech’s official statement confirms that a required digital certificate has expired, blocking execution of both Logi Options+ and G HUB on macOS. The company emphasizes that users’ device profiles and custom settings will remain intact and unaffected by the outage. Importantly, Logitech noted that the fix will not involve a version update, indicating that the existing application will simply be re-signed and redistributed with a valid certificate.
The incident affects macOS users only; Windows users remain unaffected.
Many affected users report that their mice and keyboards are now limited to basic input functions, with custom gestures, modifier mappings, and scroll settings completely disabled. This has proven disruptive for professionals and creatives who depend on customized workflows.
Frustration has been mounting across platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), where users criticized Logitech’s lack of redundancy and the seemingly avoidable nature of the problem. Reports confirm that the problem affects a broad range of devices, including:
- MX Master 3, 3S, and 4
- MX Keys and MX Mechanical keyboards
- G502 gaming mice
- Ergo series peripherals
Users attempting to troubleshoot independently tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, running in Safe Mode, and even wiping configuration files, without success. Some eventually discovered the root cause through system logs and Apple’s certificate validation process.
Workarounds and temporary fixes
In the absence of a fix from Logitech, the user community has offered several workarounds:
- Set the system date to January 5 or earlier, bypassing macOS’s certificate check. This allows the app to launch temporarily but may interfere with other applications or security checks.
- Reinstall the older Logi Options app (not Options+), using archived offline installers, and disable automatic updates. This version lacks cloud sync and AI features but offers similar basic functionality.
- Block internet access to the app after launching it offline, to avoid triggering certificate validation during runtime.
While functional, these workarounds come with their own sets of trade-offs and are not recommended for long-term use.
Until an official fix is made available, users are advised not to delete their configuration files, as their profiles will remain intact.
